Bush vs. Holmes

The Florida Constitution states that no revenue of the state shall ever be taken from the public treasury to aid a sectarian institution. I feel this is a strong statement and one that should be followed. I work in the public school system and believe that any available funds should be given to the public schools. Each year the funds seem smaller and smaller and the school system needs everything it can provide a proper learning environment. A lot of money is used on the voucher program and I feel that money should be dispersed through the public school system.

All children deserve equal education. Private schools, however, provide students with resources that a public school can’t always provide. If a parent wants their children to go to a private school to than they should be paying for that private school out of their own pockets. Public school is provided for all children and it is the choice of a family to send their children to a private school. Private schools offer small class sizes, have access and funds for newer and up-to-date technology, and do not require standardized tests for graduation. Although most children of private schools are those of upper class, this is still a choice that is made and something that should not be funded by the public school system.

Most private schools are funded or associated with church. Florida constitution prohibits prayer in school and the voucher program does not support the separation of church and state. I personally do not agree with the voucher program and think it should be taken out of public funding.
